Just a little story I would like to share with you all in relation to the releasing of butterflies at weddings.  I was approached by a very excited bride and groom not so long ago who wanted the very best of everything to make their wedding the most memorable occasion for not only themselves but all who attended.  As they rattled off their list of extravagance they came to the part of symbolism and suggested the release of a whole heap of butterflies.  Obviously the price was not a problem for the couple but they did not have a clue when it came to the massive precision and timing and luck one needs with butterflies.  I said leave this one with me and I will do a little research into this type of symbolism for a wedding.

Firstly it is probably best to appoint somebody who can do a little research and take on this task wholly and solely so that all precautionary measures are adhered to ensure that your basket of butterflies is given the best possible chance.  An average order is 2 dozen per 50 guests. For an individual butterfly release you can order one per guest or couple, or select certain guests to participate, such as the wedding party and family.  A beautiful idea is to have a whole heap in a big basket and as you are pronounced husband and wife then they are all released together.

Unbeknown to me butterflies are subject to cryotherapy ie they must be refrigerated until a certain number of hours before the release. Significantly, they need to reach a temperature of 23 degrees before they can fly. It's absolutely horrifying to see a butterfly sitting on the end of some-one's finger trying madly to fly and it just doesn't happen! Also, perhaps even more distressing is the dead butterflies as you open the box because of bad timing and overheating....Argh!!!!!

Many people also are unaware that butterflies need to be released at least 2hours before sunset. They need this time to find a nesting place or they die!

If you are lucky enough to get this far with these fragile little critters then the following can be spoken as the butterflies are released.

American Indian Legend

According to an American Indian Legend –

Since a butterfly can make no sound, the butterfly can not reveal
the wish to anyone but the Great Spirit who hears and sees all.
In gratitude for giving the beautiful butterfly its freedom,
the Great Spirit always grants the wish.
So, according to legend, by making a wish and giving the butterfly its freedom, the wish will be taken to the heavens and be granted.

If all goes to plan this can be very beautiful and touching part of your ceremony but ensure that you do your homework and find out as much information as possible before going ahead as these little critters are not cheap.

Might be best sticking with the rice or rose petals.

Whos game???

Regards

Annie.
