Last week we spoke in detail about different sceneries in the Albury Wodonga area to hold your wedding ceremony/reception.  Another idea for your ceremony/reception is a marquee, which are great to have.  Holding your reception in a marquee enables you to choose a unique backdrop such as the botanical gardens or even your own back yard.  Marquee’s are a great idea but you have to be aware that you will have to finance the cost of hiring the grounds, possibly, as well as organising tables and decorations and catering and audio equipment. It is ideal for taking complete creative control of the decorations, catering and the entertainment and an outdoor tent will require a nearby power source, restroom and kitchen facilities for your caterers.

So all the nerves and the twitches and the jitters are over and its now time to get into the celebrating, but you have to feed and water the multitude of people that have turned up for the wedding.  You have two options for food and wine for the reception.  You can hire a caterer or hold your reception at a function house or restaurant where food is provided as part of a package deal.

Before you shop around and ask for various quotes in writing, make sure you have a firm idea how many guests will need to be served, and don’t forget to enquire about group discounts, mid week specials and complimentary extras.  You need to ask things like are you able to sample their dishes before deciding, how are the charges calculated, do the caterers have public liability and workers compensation insurance, how much fluctuation in guest numbers is allowed before the price changes, do you need to arrange a children’s menu, Can you cater the menu to your liking?

Now, with the meal options there’s all different ones: there’s a wedding breakfast,  there’s a wedding brunch, you can have a wedding lunch, a wedding tea, a cocktail party, a sit down dinner and  wedding buffet just to mention a few. Say for a cocktail party, which are very popular these days, an evening reception is usually held in a smart venue and allows guests to stand and mingle.  Serving style is canapés, sparkling wines and cocktails followed by the wedding cake.  This then gives the youngies time to go off to the nightclubs afterwards.  The option of the wedding tea: I am doing a wedding soon in the botanical gardens and they are going to serve a high wedding tea afterwards, its held at 3 or 4 in the afternoon, this light fare involves finger food or a simple buffet and wedding cake served with alcohol and/or cocktails.

The wedding brunch: this light luncheon or morning tea should take place between 10:30 or 12,  combining breakfast and lunch foods followed by dessert.  If morning is too early for alcohol, serve wedding punch (yum yum).
