Weddings are a joyful celebration of the commencement of
married life.
It’s a happy occasion.
While the commitment is a serious undertaking it
does not mean the ceremony has to be mournful and
serious. A
wedding can be relaxed, special, meaningful and
memorable without being terribly serious.
Humour at a wedding is not out of place.
A few touches of humour at appropriate times can
make a huge difference.
Lots of testimonials (which I see as a very important
link, for a celebrant to understand their work practice)
that I am very grateful to receive, speak of a relaxed
ceremony with appropriate ‘humour’ and how much this was
appreciated.
This week I thought I would enlighten you with some
funny situations that have been part of my experience as
a civil celebrant.
A beautiful ceremony to be performed on Lake Mulwala; a
beautiful sunny day and then the wind came up.
The poor bride, her veil kept hiding her face and
you could see it was really stressing her.
One of the bridesmaids,
quickly thinking, took hold of the long veil and tied it
in a knot.
The ceremony went on until just as the couple were
exchanging their vows with “I will love you through fire
and tempest, and whatever life has in store us” CRASH!!!
The heavily decorated arbour came crashing down
over the top of the startled couple.
Loud screams were heard from the congregation as
I quickly and quietly asked the bridal group to pick up
the arbour and put it to one side.
Right! Alls well… and on we go.
What great memories to tell the children in years
to come.
A couple were marrying and they had a few children
involved in the bridal party.
Before the ceremony and before any of the
formality’s of the wedding ceremony had been performed,
the little darlings spied a water feature.
Unfortunately, due to all the excitement no one
quite noticed what the kids were up to…. The ring
bearers will be seen in the wedding photos as little
drowned rats with muddy dirty outfits and no shoes.
Priceless!!
A bride told me her young niece just loved being apart
of the wedding party, and a little into the reception
she came up to Auntie Pru , tugged her hand and said
“Do you want to come and play on the swings with
me”. Auntie
Pru stated, “Thankyou darling, but I’m just a bit busy
at the moment”.
It’s great when weddings sometimes just don’t go
quite according to plan – it makes them more personal.
There goes the rest of the ink in the pen.
Til next time,
Annie
